And he shall be Levon
And he shall be a good man
And he shall be Levon…

Taylor Hicks returned to the Northeast last Thursday for four acoustic concerts in Connecticut, Delaware, Maryland and Pennsylvania.  In each intimate venue, the two man band wrapped their stories into the music making the stage feel more like a living room than a concert hall.

The music and the story telling was all on Taylor and his keyboardist and musical director, Brian Less. The stories from before and after Taylor’s win on American Idol were humorously interlaced with tales from his life as an entertainer, writer and actor since his Idol win.

Taylor was first introduced to the TV viewing public singing Elton John’s ‘Levon’. Ten years later, Taylor still entertains through his songs saying “the vault is filled with music”. Letting the stories and music out one performance at a time guarantees that his story is to be continued…

Please enjoy a recorded version of ‘Levon’ from Taylor’s April 22nd performance at World Cafe Live at the Queen in Wilmington, Delaware.

Great show and beautiful write up. Nice to see all the familiar faces. He and Brian really filled the room with love.

Thank you, Pattie. I thought the same thing about how Taylor and Brian filled the room each night with their music and love for performing.

Was at the Lyric in Birmingham which may have been my favorite show of all I’ve seen. Just when you think he is at his best, he comes back giving even more of himself and all the time expressing that he is happier on stage enveloped in the music than anywhere else. That is contagious and that’s why we keep coming back again and again. Thanks for sharing your experience, the photos and the music.

Thank you, Connie. So glad that you got to see Taylor with his band at the Lyric. Taylor in this acoustic setting was pure Taylor although he did have to carry a heavy load. He did very, very well despite it being just the two of them doing four shows in a row.

Thanks, Liz. Agreed. It was great to see Taylor and Brian out performing and in the East! Looking forward to their return in June and July.

So interesting to hear that he did acoustic shows. I’ve only ever seen him with a full band. And since we all know he has a great sense of humor, I’ll bet the stories were very entertaining. I’d love to make it to one of these shows. Thanks so much for the write-up! And photos, of course. They’re stunning.

Thanks, Caryl. These are the first shows I’ve seen that was just Brian and Taylor. I’ve seen acoustic at Glens Falls, NY but that was with a full band. All four shows in the East showcased Taylor’s vocals and Brian’s piano skills. They work well together. I told Taylor I liked the acoustic and he said he likes the full band, too, because it spreads the music around. His voice is still impressive. The set list was some of the usual but the two new songs ‘No Place I’d Rather Be’ and ‘Six Strings Are Hard on Diamond Rings’ are perfect vehicles for him, especially Six Strings. I could listen to that one all day. It’s beautiful. Thanks again.

PS: Taylor did say at Avalon Theatre and one other show that he would be back and that he will come with a full band.

Thanks, Judy. The acoustic shows were very different but a lot more of Taylor and Brian, which is a good thing. He said he would return with a band but either way, we’re looking forward to seeing him again in June and July.

  6. Louise, it was great to see you, again. As well, as (just like in the tweets I sent out to Allison, & Debbie) many whom I knew of, & interacted with these past 10 years, but finally met up with. Thanks so much for the audio from Taylor’s Delaware show. I keep re[eating myself, but .. His voice was flawless, on pitch and powerful. Those who attended this show were loud and proud. I sure hope he can make his way back to the first state again. I checked into the Boogie and ask who all was attending and didn’t see you comment. I checked in again, and the site was down. I wanted to call our beloved friend, Madaboutyou and treat her to a a cell cert. She has been a constant there. Sadly that site was/is down, and has been since. I would love to know the set list, from the Delaware show, if you would be so kind to share. Unfortunately, I missed the tweet in regards to meeting up for a SP dinner. Your pictures and audio are always, flawless. Thank you

Thank you so much, Jeanne. As always, it was great to see you, a longtime, loyal Taylor Hicks fan at the Delaware show. The boogie has been down for about two weeks so not sure what is happening there. As it turned out, the SP dinner before the show did not happen b/c of timing and the meet and greet before the show. We’ll get together for sure the next time we see Taylor in Delaware! Thanks again, Jeanne.
