Photo Focus:: Rusted Root~It’s Always a Dance Party
By Louise Uznanski for Ontapblog
On the outside, New Jersey’s Ocean City Music Pier is a hot and humid mix of sand, sea and late summer vacationers. On the inside, it’s a dance party. Well, it is when Rusted Root is in town. My second venture to see Rusted Root in the past year, I was not surprised by the music. It pulses. It’s rootsy and thumps, thumps, thumps into your head.
Last year the band was to open a nearby, new, state-of-the art venue. Because the venue was not ready on opening night the show was moved outside to the NJ Motorsports Park Club House. The clouds opened up one hour before show time and left the stage and the grounds soaked and muddy. No problem. From the first note to the last, the dancing, with and without shoes, ensued.
Last night, Rusted Root, all with their shoes on, cranked up the audience from the first note and filled the aisles, the sides and the stage with fans who sang along to every song. No mud, no rain, no problem. The dancing inside this new and elegant shore town venue was the only change. The band’s well known ‘Send Me On My Way’ from their 1994 album When I Woke, was the anthem of both Rusted Root shows I attended. It just makes you want to get your feet dirty.
The band is touring and performing songs from their latest effort, The Movement. Rusted Root continues the dance party and if I see them again, I’ll be sure to wear easily removable shoes.
