Taylor Hicks on Tour: Finders, Keepers

Photos and blog contributed by Louise Uznanski for OntapBlog.

A hot June day in upstate New York. It rained a little, and it was a long day of waiting in the field near Syracuse for Taylor and his band to play in Jamesville. Tuning the guitar, Taylor looks out onto the crowd and spots the cones. A flashback happens caused by hundreds of nights playing in Grease and touring the road in shadow shows and scheduled tour appearances.

While fishing through my cell phone photos trying for a year to find the video I took of Taylor performing The Fall in Biloxi, MS, I stumbled across a gallery of photos of Taylor on tour amongst the thousands of photos on my cell phone. Photos of dogs, snow, stadiums, houses, gardens, flowers, Florida pools and so on were stored away for eternity or until I dropped the phone in the toilet like I did with my last phone.

Here is a taste of Taylor’s touring days as seen through my phone camera that has travelled the country with me. I found these photos; they are saved for safe keeping always. You know what is said about Finders, Keepers. I found a little Taylor in my search for something else; I’ll keep it but I’ll share, so the riddle does apply.

Travel and Buses:

Traveling through rain a hundred times to theaters and malls and did I mention the rain? How about the snow?
A little snow never stopped Taylor in Minnesota or us! Bikes lined up in 16″ of snow in Madison, WS. On the way to Ft. Walton Beach, FL
The bus at Rams Head Inn, Annapolis, Md. The bus at Jonathon’s, Ogunquit, Maine.
We went to theaters, stopped in malls and visited airports, so many airports!
Chicago airport at Christmas on the way to Madison, WS. Jeff Lopez poses in front of a trumpeter’s mural at the Birchmere, Virginia.
The Gold Strike Casino rises out of the open fields in Tunica, MS. Who could resist the rides at the Mall of America in Minneapolis?
Taylor signs CDs in the front lobby at the Snoqualmie Casino, Washington. Where it all began…..The Galleria in Birmingham, AL.
The Flamingo Room outside at night after Taylor Hicks show outside Houston, TX. The Minneapolis city skyline from the road.
Before we got to our seats we would see the marquees and billboard posters and the always present ‘Meet Taylor Hicks’. The marquee at the Palace Theater in Pennsylvania.
The window display for Taylor’s show at the Vinyl Music Hall near Pensacola, FL. One of the best shows of the 2011 season: The McKinney PAC, McKinney, TX.
The Telluride Jazz Celebration brought Taylor and his band to Colorado for 3 days of music and scenic beauty. The local news printed a large article on The Soul Man Cometh! Great title!
The outside sign advertising Taylor’s show at the Flamingo rose above the 8 lane highway in Houston, TX. Taylor performed twice at Epcot; this marquee is from the 2010 show.
Our support of Taylor’s dedication to our troops resulted in a Soul Patrol Badge worn for the 911 Challenge Ride in New York. The Texas Challenge – San Marcos, TX
Performance shots from Taylor’s tours in 2010 and 2011.
Harp case taken at great physical danger to the shooter; trying to bend over and take the photo upside down worked! The bandset at Snoqualmie, WA.
The local newspaper again posts a nice interview before Taylor’s show in Pitman, NJ. Taylor at the Mexicali Cafe, Teaneck, NJ. I snuck up to sit at the stage and stayed there all night. No one noticed!
Taylor and Clay set up the stage at the Tanger Outlets, Deer Park, NY, on Paul McCartney’s and my birthday.
Taylor at Tanger Outlets, Deer Park, NY. Loved the orange backdrop. Bull Run Restaurant in Shirley, MA. Small stage, close seating, great acoustic show.
A set list handwritten by Taylor. The other set list here is worth comparison.
Croc Rock, Allentown, PA. The show was shocking! Taylor was lucky not to have been electrocuted this night. Embroidered shirt, Flamingo Room, Houston, TX.
The best little local theater of the 2010 tour: The Infinity, Connecticut. The NYC show where the 2010 tour began. Rob Shuter was our guest at our table and we had a lovely time. Wink.
Jonathon’s Restaurant in Maine where Taylor sold out the concert hall and was invited back for a return performance. Jonathon’s, May 8, 2010 w/Matt Kimbrall on congas.
The Paramount Theater in Vermont. The introduction of the checked flannel shirt. The Paramount in Vermont.
The Maplewood, Madison, WS. The WorkPlay Christmas show. Taylor had special t-shirts printed and they became a treasure for all those who attended.

Ten year anniversary of 911. The Soul Patrol sponsored Vann Schaffner in the 911 NYC Challenge ride. Epcot Eat to The Beat 2010. Who wants to see Taylor there for a third time?

When the Instagram app is available for the Android, I will have a new avenue to create Taylor Hicks memories when he goes on tour again this year.  If all goes well, it won’t take me two years to find and share them.

Very surprising what you’ll find on a cellphone and how much fun it is to look back. Rob Shuter is a big fan of Taylor’s and did he get a great show at the Highline in NY. Looking forward to more happy times in 2012 and beyond.

Oh, that was fun! Great memories! Didn’t see them all in person but enough to keep a smile on my face and saw the rest thru the eyes and cameras of those of you who WERE there. Definitely ready for whatever 2012 will bring us that involves Taylor since that will also mean connecting with other fans in person again! Sure hope Taylor has some plans to reveal tonight but, if not, it’ll still be great to see/hear him.
