Taylor Hicks Headlines Flora-Bama Beach Blowout Sept 3
It’s white sand beach, warm sun, and cold beer. It’s the surf at your toes, a football in your hand, music and laughter in the air. It’s a last chance at summer, and a nice-to-meet-ya to fall.
The Flora-Bama Lounge & Package has announced a beach concert and all day party for Saturday, September 3. American Idol season 5 winner Taylor Hicks will headline the musical entertainment, with perennial favorites Rollin’ in the Hay and Spoonful James also scheduled to perform.
The doors open at 10 a.m. and the action gets immediately underway. A college football viewing party starts at 11 a.m. with SEC conference teams Auburn, Alabama, Florida State, Florida, and LSU all on the day’s schedule. Family friendly activities are planned throughout the day. The concert begins at 2 p.m., with Taylor Hicks to take the beach stage at 5:30 p.m.
It promises to be a rousing good time; all available evidence suggests that the Flora-Bama knows how to throw a serious party. Take their spring shindig, for example. For twenty-seven years the Interstate Mullet Toss has brought tens of thousands to the Florida-Alabama state line to watch and/or participate in a “dead mullet flinging contest”. That’s right; crowds congregate to throw a small fish as far as possible down the beach, and into the neighboring state. It’s a competition that is measured less in distance than it is in fun. Or maybe it’s measured by the fluid ounce; it’s hard to be sure.
Regardless, the Mullet Toss is an event so memorable and so profound that is has been immortalized in documentary form and featured in the New York Times. Watch the following short film to gain a better understanding of the event, its founder, and the rules of the game. Learn how to make that mullet fly.

The spring Toss is all about having fun. So is the upcoming Labor Day weekend bash. Taylor Hicks and friends performed at the beach for years prior to his American Idol run. They know how to get the party going and keep the energy flowing. So mull-et over, but not for long. Head to the Flora-Bama for a Beach Concert and Party on Saturday, September 3. Throw your cares down the beach; just have fun.
Tickets for the Flora-Bama Beach Concert and Party are $25, and are available here: http://on.fb.me/pzuniJ
