Taylor Hicks Has Happy Feet

The stage is his comfort zone.  His feet feel just fine in front of the footlights.  Now Taylor Hicks is set to move those feet in a new direction, double-time.

On Sunday, July 25, Teen Angel takes on a new role, as Hicks leaves Broadway behind to open his national concert tour in New York City.  Don’t expect to hear show tunes at Highline Ballroom; look instead for roadhouse rock and blues, delivered with conviction.

Will some of his Broadway swagger translate to the concert stage?  No doubt, and Taylor allows that his positive experience in GREASE could eventually lead to more theater, “if the right role comes along”.  He’s already fielded two or three offers to return to Times Square.  Hicks describes himself as serious and sometimes pensive, unlike the playful, charismatic character who spoke through the television during his triumphant American Idol run.  The right role for Hicks is one that “touches on who I am as a person”.

But for now, Taylor is looking forward to seeing the country from the windows of a tour bus with a group of guys who know their music, and who know how to give a good time.  Set to cover twenty cities in a month’s time, those wheels are going to turn.  And while at some point Hicks does plan to “dial up acting a little more”, just right now an “acting coach wouldn’t fit on the bus!”

Thanks for this jump start to the tour, THN. So happy Taylor is going to return to live performances which seem to be his life’s blood. Can’t wait to see what happens when the tour is over, too.

I am so excited for Taylor’s new tour. Music is part of him as he lives and breathes it into our hearts. Its pure joy. I hope the new merchandise will be available on his web site. I can never get enough of the magic that only Taylor can bring us. Hope there will be some video and lots of pictures of this grand event as Taylor continues to move forward and upward. A Tay fan forever!

At first I was worried when I read the heading, “Taylor Hicks Has Happy Feet.” I thought, oh no, he’s going on Dancing with the Stars. What a bummer. Then I read the article. Wheew, what a relief ! Glad that Taylor & his band are on the road again. It’s always a treat for me to see my favorite Idol in concert.

  11. Taylor is ….serious and sometimes pensive, unlike the playful, charismatic character …(of the) American Idol run.

In retrospect , that is called acting. “All the world’s a stage” as ole Billy Shakespeare said. I think Taylor finds himself more and more often “on stage”.

This “stage” of his career should bring a smile to his pensive brow as he is where he seems most comfortable; performing “on stage” for an audience.

  12. Interesting comment, cath! Was it acting, or just one facet of a multifacted personality? I don’t know; you may be right.

  13. THN, this is music to my ears!!!! 🙂 Great interview/article, just great!!! Taylor is the consummate artist and a very rare talent. Via his beautiful music and any acting role he chooses to take on, he’s got me as a fan for life.

I think its little of both , part acting , but mostly one facet of a multifacted personality. Its what makes Taylor so much fun to follow, never sure whats next. The tour will be a blast, can’t wait to hear the band and the music he has in store for us.
